Dutch Saxophone Festival

In 2014, we celebrate the 200th birthday of the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax.

No other  instrument has gained so much popularity in such short time, and has known such a colourful history.

From February 2nd. – 8th., the Dutch Saxophone Festival will take place at the Fontys Conservatorium  Tilburg to commemorate this anniversary.

A fantastic week full of unique concerts, lectures and lessons by world class saxophonists such as  Carina Raschèr and Jean-Marie Londeix. A.o. the Dutch Saxophone Quartet, performing on Adolphe

Sax instruments, the famous Raschèr Saxophone Orchestra, the New Cool Collective and many  others, will present the saxophone in all its facets. From February 2nd – 8th, Tilburg will become the  centre of the saxophone world.

There will be particular focus on music for saxophone by Dutch composers. Furthermore, a book

about the history of the classical saxophone in the Netherlands by Andreas van Zoelen will be  presented.

Initiator of this festival is Andreas van Zoelen, professor of classical saxophone at the Fontys

Conservatorium Tilburg. Apart from his teaching activities, his extensive performing career takes him

around the world. He has performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon  Rattle.
